I'd take 7 million for my house. :)

Barton wanted at least $7 Million for the house. I get that figure from the opening bid on the Piper Mountain estate.

Turns out that no one really was interested that much in an auction for the house. At least they weren't interested enough to pay top dollar at an auction. Maybe they will negotiate a price for the Gilford New Hampshire house.

At a Thursday afternoon auction, the multi-million-dollar Piper Mountain Estate did not bring the bids that developer and owner Dwight Barton was looking for.

"It's not quite what we expected. I think the real bidders never showed up," said Barton after the auction, showing some disappointment with the way things went.

However, Barton said he is somewhat hopeful about private negotiations that might come about as a result of the auction.

If you are looking to spend that amount of money on a house, then give me a shout. I'd probably even accept $6 Million for my house.

From another blog. Skiing at Gunstock

I can't add all that much to this. We have spent many days skiing there and have for several years gotten passes for us and the kids. Gunstock is only about 10 minutes from our house.

Skiing at Gunstock in New Hampshire
. Skiing is one of New Hampshire special delights and our state is fortunate enough to offer a wide variety of skiing for every level and every budget.

Gunstock is located in a town called Gilford near the popular town of Laconia. It's location is ideal and very easy to get to. The Gunstock website has a pretty neat interactive trail map...they didn't have this kind of stuff when I was skiing!

Don't forget the swingset.

Well I forgot to tell you the most important part of this particular piece of Gilford real estate. At least as far as kids go. A few years ago we put in a cedar works swing set with two towers. Its not that huge, but it is nice. It has been a collection point for our kids friends for many years.

You can't really see it all that well, but it is in the left hand side of this photo.

Gilford "Old home day"

"Fun under the big top". It was hot and I hear that they had a thunderstorm during the day, but that apparently didn't stop the local crowds from showing up for the 5k road race, or the rest of the activities.

Sorry I missed it this year.

I didn't know that was her

So I read in the Citizen that Julie Grant, a pop star from England in the 60s has a home in Gilford.

Who knew. She is best known locally as for appearing in Al Nix's estate planning ads. The Citizen did not want to name him for some reason, but why not. He is a local lawyer. I'd even post his website here, but shame shame Al, I can't seem to find it when I search for his name.

The photo is from The Citizen Website.

My favorite local coffee shop

One of the best shops to come into the Laconia area in recent years was Awakenings Espresso Cafe. Irena the owner is a gem. Laura, Jane and the rest of the staff there are fun, interesting folks. Both Sue and I loved going in there. Trivia Tuesdays, Special performances, and local artist presentations all added to the shop and to downtown in general.

This one place we will miss.

Working from Home in Gilford, NH

It's one of the things I do. I am more often home in the home office upstairs than I am actually at my office. (I'll have to get some pictures up of that room).

One reason I can do that is that the computer connection I have is reliable and fast. I use Metrocast and the website says that you can get speeds of up to 6 megabits/second. I have 4Mbs and it works great.

My VerizonWireless blackberry phone also works well throughout the entire area which allows me to stay in touch easily with the office.
